Predictive factors of viral load high-risk events for virological failure in HIV/AIDS patients receiving long-term antiviral therapy

Abstract: Background In the era of anti-retroviral therapy (ART), the plasma HIV viral load (VL) is an important primary indicator for monitoring the HIV treatment response. To optimize the clinical management of HIV/AIDS patients, we investigated VL high-risk events related to virological failure (VF) and further explored the preventive factors of VL high-risk events. Methods The data were derived from China’s HIV/AIDS Comprehensive Response Information Man… Show more

“…6 Qin et al also revealed that the cumulative rates of VF in the LLV group (200 copies/mL < VL ≤ 400 copies/mL) and the nonsuppressed group were significantly higher than those in the viral-suppression group. 19 Mesic et al found an increased hazard for failure with age ≤19, baseline tuberculosis, and history of LLV (aHR 1.60; 95% CI: 1.42-1.81; p < 0.001). 20 According to Bernal et al, patients with LLV 200 to 499 copies/mL were more likely to develop virological failure and present AIDS cases or death in the long-term prognosis.…”

“…With available ART, HIV infection can be treated and the life expectancy PLHIV can be increased, as ART lowers HIV viral loads and delays the progression of the disease and consequently, increases the survival rate [ 14 ]. In 2020, UNAIDS estimated that around 10.2 million people worldwide were not on ART with 4.1 million of whom did not know their HIV-positive status and 6.1 million of those who knew their HIV status but could not access treatment [ 15 ].…”
