Predictive maintenance of a reducer with contaminated oil under an excentrical load through vibration and oil analysis

Abstract: Among all Predictive Maintenance techniques the oil analysis and vibration analysis are the most important for monitoring some systems. The integration of these techniques has the potential to revolutionize industrial practices and provide a large economic gain for industries. To study the integration of both techniques a bench test was set up and put to work to the extreme limit of use. Tests were carried out with the lubricant recommended by the manufacturer of the equipment, using lubricants supplemented wi… Show more

“…Gear condition can be monitored through process parameter measurement [27], vibratory [28,29], thermal [30], acoustic [31] and oil-based analysis [32]. Out of these, the use of vibrating signals in gear fault diagnosis has seen a surge in popularity due to its direct mensuration and rich systemcritical content [33].…”

“…OA has three main purposes [61]: (i) to monitor the lubricant; condition and reveal whether the system fluid is healthy and fit for further service or requires a change; (ii) to ensure the oil quality (e.g., contamination by parts, moisture); and (iii) to safeguard the components involved (part characterization). Six main tests are generally employed in the OA process: [57,[63][64][65] OA techniques can be divided into two categories: real-time continuous monitoring and offline oil sample analysis [66]. These processes are typically executed off line by taking samples.…”

“…The method ASTM D445 is used for identification of viscosity, the method ASTM D 974 or D 664 is to determine the total number of acids and ASTM D 1744 to determine the water concentration by titration ( Gonçalves, Padovese, 2010). In cases where the water is at levels above 0.05 vol.%, infrared spectrography can be used.…”

“…This counting informs the number of particles larger than a given size found in a specified volume of fluid. For the counting of particles the standard SAE AS 4059, NAS 1638 (National Aerospace Agency), or ISO can be used (Gonçalves and Padovese, 2010). The ISO 4406 norm (International Standard Organization) is the most widely used.…”
