Predictors of bronchial hyperresponsiveness in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyp

Abstract: Taken together, these results indicate that moderate to severe sneezing and a serum eosinophil count > or = 300 cells/microl may be predictive factors for BHR in patients with CRSNP.

“…The cut-point at >0.30 × 10 9 /L or 4.4% of white blood cells as proposed is still within the normal range and has a negative predictive value of 67%. Han et al 10 also proposed the same cut-point of >0.30 × 10 9 /L for predicting bronchial hyperresponsiveness in CRSsNP with sensitivity of 70% and specificity of 70%. Sakuma et al 26 proposed the cut-point of ≥6% eosinophils of the total leukocytes for predicting ECRS with a sensitivity of 97.4% and a specificity of 70.7%.…”

“…Further studies, such as a regression analysis in a larger cohort of Chinese patients with CRS, should be performed to better determine asthma risk and factors that contribute to asthma. 8 We conclude that Chinese patients with CRS have a low level of asthma comorbidity compared with Western populations. Further studies of the mechanisms of CRS and factors that contribute to asthma could improve management of the united airway.…”

“…73 A later study demonstrated that sneezing and a serum eosinophil count of over 300 cells per microliter may be predictive factors for BHR in patients with CRSwNP. 74 We compared pulmonary function between CRS patients without any diagnosed lung diseases and healthy subjects. There were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of forced expiratory volume in 1 s and the percentage of predicted vital capacity.…”
