Predictors of satisfaction after lumbar disc herniation surgery in elderly

Abstract: BackgroundThe aim of this study was to evaluate satisfaction and factors associated with satisfaction in elderly undergoing lumbar disc herniation surgery.MethodsIn the national Swedish register for spinal surgery (SweSpine) we identified 2095 patients aged > 65 years (WHO definition of elderly) whom during 2000–2016 had undergone LDH surgery and had pre- and one-year postoperative data (age, gender, preoperative duration and degree of back- and leg pain, quality of life (SF-36) and one-year satisfaction (diss… Show more

“…To perform this multivariate logistic regression analysis, the options of very satisfied, satisfied and somewhat satisfied were categorized as 'satisfied', and those of somewhat dissatisfied, dissatisfied and very dissatisfied were categorized as 'dissatisfied'. In deciding the variables to be included in the model, factors that are known to affect patient satisfaction from previous research were chosen from all the variables collected like (details shown as references) sex, 30 age, 31 annual household income, 32 pain intensity, 33 catastrophizing, 34 neuropathic component of the pain, 35 HRQOL, 36 waiting time at the treatment facility, 37 types of physician's facility 38 and impression of treatment effect.…”

“…e most fundamental reason for this symptom is the disease of the intervertebral disc. After degeneration, the nucleus pulposus is degenerated and frees the rear dural sac, nerve roots, and other tissues [1]. With the development of computer technology, the use of computer CT scanning, three-dimensional reconstruction, spine biomechanics segmentation and assignment analysis, mechanical loading, stress analysis, and displacement study of three-dimensional spine biomechanics methods makes the research of biomechanics enter the stage of in vitro simulation and gradually become current research hotspots [2].…”

“…The intervertebral disc is subjected to complex loading conditions (Hareni et al, 2019). In fact, even simple axial compression creates complex load conditions on the intervertebral disc through the circumferential tensile stress of the anulus fibrosus, radial bulging of the anulus fibrosus, and the interaction between the nucleus pulposus and the surrounding anulus fibrosus (O'Connell et al, 2011).…”
