Predictors Predictors of 1 year mortality in adult injured patients admitted to the trauma center

Abstract: Background:Traditional approach to predicting trauma-related mortality utilizes scores based on anatomical, physiological, or a combination of both types of criteria. However, several factors are reported in literature to predict mortality independent of severity scores. The objectives of the study were to identify predictors of 1 year mortality and determine their magnitude and significance of association in a resource constrained scenario.Materials and Methods:Prospective observational study enrolled 572 pat… Show more

“…A multivariable logistic regression model was also used to evaluate the risk of mortality after controlling for known predictors of mortality. These variables were chosen by consensus among authors after review of the literature 13,14 and included age, sex, ISS > 25, hypotension (SBP < 90 mmHg), tachycardia (>120 beats/min), penetrating mechanism of injury, and comorbidities (ie, CHF, COPD, CVA, diabetes, hypertension, smoking history, and chronic renal failure). These variables were first analyzed using a univariable logistic regression model.…”

“…The study showed 97.85% mortality within 8 weeks after injury. 14 In series of published studies, the outcome of patients with a GCS score of 3-6 has been found particularly poor prognostic factor. In particular, a GCS score of 3 at the time of presentation is particularly associated with poor outcome 15 .…”

“…Previous studies have shown that early APTT is a predictor of 30-day and 1-year mortality in ST-elevation myocardial infarction patients treated with percutaneous coronary intervention and unfractionated heparin [ 8 ]. For trauma patients, APTT at admission was also a predictor of 1-year mortality [ 9 , 10 ]. Therefore, we wanted to know whether the preoperative APTT as an appropriate indicator would be of prognostic value for CABG.…”
