Show more

“…This result indicates that the Asaoka method shows a reasonable prediction of the final settlement, but the method cannot provide the settlement behavior at the early time of construction. Furthermore, Nawir et al [6] recommended that a carefully recorded observational data is essential to estimate the final settlement accurately. However, the problem of Asaoka method can be compensated by numerical method.…”

“…In the Asaoka Method, the magnitude of actual ground settlement can be predicted without the parameters used in the consolidation analysis, such as pore water pressure data, drainage length, maximum soil strain and consolidation coefficient. However, the method needs a complete field measurement [5,6]. The field data are deriving and analyzed by curve fitting (see Fig.…”

“…The existing formula has to be slightly modified if the embankment placed step by step. If load placed each step is Δp, the effective overburden stress is p o ', and the pre consolidation stress is p c ' (as shown in Figure 1) the consolidation formula [4 (3) where: C c = compression index C s = swelling index If PVD is installed to accelerate the consolidation period, the formula to calculate the degree of consolidation caused by excess pore water flows into the PVD (U h ) [5] is:…”

“…In this paper, the C h value will be determined from settlement field data taken from the trial embankment at the reclamation area for container yard at Kuala Tanjung, Medan, North Sumatera. The methods adopted to determine the C h value were Terzaghi [1], Asaoka [2], and Finite Element [3] methods. From this study, it will be known the exact value of C h and the best method to determine it.…”

“…This is because the Asaoka method is overrated to represent the actual conditions in the field. In addition, Asaoka's method predicts final settlement based on available field data [20].…”
