Abstract:African-American women have a maternal mortality rate approximately three times higher than European-American women. This is partially due to hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, including preeclampsia. Fetal APOL1 high-risk genotype increases preeclampsia risk, although mechanisms remain elusive.
