Preliminary Investigation on Rotary Ultrasonic Face Milling of Ceramic Matrix Composite C/Sic: Design of Experiments

Abstract: Abstract. The feasibility of rotary ultrasonic face milling (RUFM) of ceramic matrix composites was evaluated experimentally in this study. Preliminary experimental results show that, comparing with conventional grinding (CG), RUFM can reduce cutting forces dramatically though with a little enlargement of surface roughness. Both in CG and RUFM, a positive dependency of surface roughness on cutting force can be deduced.
