“…A mesenchymal origin was also suggested by Burton [1963] in the case of the stem cell of skin MCs. More specifically, Csaba et al [1970], observ ing MC development in mouse spleen and thymus, thought that the mesenchymal cell is lymphoid, where as, Desaga et al [1971] and Thiede et al [1971] believed that it was a monocytic cell from which rat peritoneal MCs regenerated after damage. Regarding the perivas cular MCs of the CNS, only one study has suggested a source for these cells, namely the mesenchymally de rived pericyte [Flood and Kruger, 1970], The present findings cannot confirm this however since pericytes, being nongranular cells, did not resemble maturing MCs.…”
