Preliminary validation of a Chinese version of the comprehensive assessment of acceptance and commitment therapy processes

Abstract: Civil servants are bridges that connect the general public and the government in China. Because their mental health may influence the rise and fall of the country, it is important to study their mental health and living conditions. The Comprehensive Assessment of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Processes (CompACT) is a general measure of ACT processes and reflects individual psychological flexibility. We investigated the psychometric properties of CompACT in a non-clinical sample of civil servants. The Chine… Show more

“…In consistence with the original English version, and similar to other validated versions in Chinese and Malay, CompACT-C revealed the three factors namely Openness to Experience (OE), Behavioural Awareness (BA), and Valued Action (VA) [ [19] , [20] , [21] , 36 ]. According the factor analysis results and CFA results, we remained all 23 original items, while the other two Chinese versions renewed the item pool [ 20 , 21 ], and the Malay version deleted the original item 18 [ 36 ]. We also reconstructed the items for a better construct with removing one item ‘I get so caught up in my thoughts that I am unable to do the things that I most want to do.’ from OE factor to the BA factor.…”

“…In China, only two simplified Chinese versions of CompACT were published [ 20 , 21 ]. However, the authors of these two versions reconstructed the items (i.e., added new items) based on the results obtained from the general populations (e.g., their employment pressure and work burden) and validated them in one specific community group, that is, Chinese financial staff and civil servants.…”

“…Scores range from 0 to 126, with a lower score representing a greater level of psychological flexibility. With a Cronbach’s α of 0.87, the validity and reliability of CompACT have been demonstrated in a non-clinical sample in China [ 97 ].…”
