Preparation and applications of hydrophilic quaternary ammonium salt type polymeric antistatic agents

Abstract: A novel ammonium salt type polymeric antistatic agent (PDSH) was synthesized from methacrylatoethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride, styrene, and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate via radical polymerization. Antistatic poly(acrylonitrile-co-butadiene-co-styrene) (ABS)/PDSH composites were prepared by blending PDSH with ABS resin. The results showed that the surface resistivity of ABS/PDSH composites with PDSH addition decreased significantly. The surface resistivity of ABS/PDSH composites containing 20 wt% PDSH was arou… Show more

“…In another study, the surface resistivity of the material reached 6.78 × 10 9 Ω at 15 wt% addition with polyquaternium antistatic agents, a decrease of five orders compared to the blank material. However, its poor compatibility with PP and high price reduces practicality 33 . In this study, the surface resistivity of PP has been reduced to 7.12 × 10 9 Ω when the addition of TMQ reaches 15 wt%.…”

“…After 250°C, PP/TMQ composites lost weight significantly and exhibited less thermal stability than pure PP. Because TMQ contained tertiary and quaternary carbon atoms, bonds close to these atoms were more prone to breaking 33 . PP was usually used at temperatures below 140°C; the thermal stability of PP/TMQ antistatic materials is perfectly suited for daily use.…”

“…So, it is feasible to add an antistatic agent to EVA to improve the resistivity of the material. Metal oxides are relatively Materials 2024, 17, 1183 2 of 13 common antistatic agents, mainly tin oxide, indium oxide and zinc oxide [3,4]. At room temperature, these metal oxides belong to a range of insulating materials.…”

“…In addition, specific peaks belonging to –CH 2 ‐N + and –N + (CH 3 ) 3 groups at 1457 and 951 cm −1 could also be observed in the FTIR spectrum of the QACA membrane (Figure S5g, Supporting Information), which further confirmed the above conclusion. [ 32 ] Typical peaks at 1732 and 1368 cm −1 were attributed to the C=O and –OCOCH 3 groups of the CA polymer. [ 33 ] The N 1s spectra of the QACA membrane were presented in Figure S6, Supporting Information, the peak at 402.6 eV could be attributed to typical quaternary ammonium N of the cation.…”
