Preparation and certification of natural and 82Se-labelled selenomethionine reference materials

Abstract: Herein, we present the certification campaign for two new selenomethionine Certified Reference Materials: SENS-1, a high-purity powder of natural isotopic abundance, and SEES-1, a solution of selenium-82 labelled selenomethionine.

“…The NRC of Canada has produced two SeMet CRMs: SENS-1, a powdered material of natural isotopic abundance and with purity traceable to the SI, and SEES-1, a concentrated solution of 82 Se-enriched SeMet for IDA measurements. 27 The material used for SENS-1 was a commercially available SeMet powder whereas SEES-1 was inhouse synthesised from metallic Se through a three-step process described in detail in the paper. The total Se concentration in SENS-1 and SEES-1 was determined by IDA-ICP-MS measurements aer MAD of the samples.…”

“…Yang et al reported the use of reactive gas LA-ICP-MS/MS to overcome the isobaric interferences encountered when determining trace level Rh and Pd in copper minerals. 150 Single quadrupole ICP-MS suffered from 63 Cu 40 Ar + and 65 Cu 40 Ar + overlaps on the 103 Rh and 105 Pd analyte masses that were only partially removed by kinetic energy discrimination. Ammonia reactive gas used in the analysis by MS/MS mode allowed quantitative removal of interference through reaction with Cu ions to form Cu(NH 3 ) + ions.…”

“…The 90 Sr/Sr atomic ratio background of approximately 6 Â 10 À13 was comparable to other AMS facilities, with good linearity from 1.75 Â 10 À10 to 3.38 Â 10 À9 . Schiffer et al investigated projective X-ray AMS (PXAMS) for measurement of 63 Ni and 90 Sr through their characteristic X-rays, studying production yields in a projectile ion energy range of 0.35 MeV u À1 to 1.80 MeV u À1 . 199 A paper by Gong et al focused on 129 I measurement using AMS at the China Institute of Atomic Energy.…”

“…For example, isotope dilution is often employed to account for variations during sample preparation, such as analyte losses or incomplete recoveries. There are numerous studies reporting the use of 13 C- or i Se-labeled SeMet isotope dilution-based quantitation of SeMet in yeast and other biological samples. In isotope dilution (or for that matter in any standard addition procedure) the requirement is that the (isotope) spike behaves the same way as the analyte. However, for SeMet in yeast, the SeMet is present as the free selenoamino acid in the spike, but (predominantly) as the proteinaceous form in the sample.…”
