“…Such observation was recently reported in the experiment performed by Patel et al [83] where they concluded that after insertion of anodized Ti6Al4V rods into simulant bone, loose debris or particulates of simulant bone were accumulated on the surface. Rutile is characterized by improved corrosion resistance as compared to anatase phase [52,90]. Furthermore, it is also reported in literature the formation of well-adherent rutile TiO 2 phase on cp-Ti with improved wear resistance and reduced friction coefficient [3].…”

“…Then the cells were dehydrated in graded alcohols (70, 80, 90 and 100 %) for 10 min each. To simulate the critical point drying, solutions of hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS, Sigma-Aldrich, USA) in alcohol (50,60,70,90, and 100 %) were progressively added to materials, during 10 min each. The materials were sputter-coated with gold and analyzed by SEM.…”

“…The slightly different morphologies of TiO 2 and B-TiO 2 films are related to the MAO process. As the addition of Na 2 B 4 O 7 Á 10H 2 O enhances the electric conductivity of the electrolyte, it increases the partial voltage on the film surface and consequently leads to more intense breakdown of the oxide film to some extent [21]. However, the surface morphologies of MAO-fabricated films are not quite different.…”

“…The high-energy resolved XPS Ca 2p, Ti 2p, Si 2p and O 1s spectra of treated Ti alloys are presented in Figure 7a-d. The binding energy of XPS Ca 2p 3/2 peak (at 347.0 eV) is found to be the same for all three alloys and corresponds to the Ca-O bond of CaSiO3 [37]. The XPS Si 2p peak position could be well fitted at 102.0 eV, relating to Si 2p in CaSiO3, but different from that of SiO2 (at 103.3 eV).…”
