“…To date, alkali activation of REF FA has not been studied. Fly ash from fluidized bed-combustion of coal has been studied recently, and promising results have been obtained with other binding materials (Chindaprasirt et al, 2011;Li et al, 2012a;Liu et al, 2014;Slavik et al, 2008;Tyni et al, 2014;Xu et al, 2010). However, S/S of FBB FA by alkali activation has not been studied.…”

“…The samples were selected by the degree of the decomposition, so a more detailed analysis can be registered. For XRD analyses, the samples were manually homogenized in an agate mortar to obtain the optimal particle size and to ensure the random orientation of the crystals in the samples (Tyni et al, 2014). XRD measurements were performed using x-ray diffractometer (Shimadzu LabX XRD-6000; Cu-Κα radiation λ = 1.5406 Å), operating at 40 kV, with a beam current of 30 mA.…”

“…The possibility to use fly and bottom ash as raw materials for geopolymers has been studied by several authors. 79 The typical SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 ratio in the ash for producing good quality geopolymers has been determined to be between 3.3 and 4.5. 9 The potential use of biomass ash as filler in bituminous mixture has been recently investigated by Melotti et al 10 : biomass ash, if subjected to a sieving process, may be considered as a valid alternative to natural filler.…”

Mortars produced by replacing natural sand with bottom bed ash (composed of sand, soil, small stones and unburnt biomass fraction) from forest biomass combustion showed similar properties of the standard ones.…”
