Preparation and Characterization of Electrospun PVDF/PMMA Composite Fibrous Membranes-Based Separator for Lithium-Ion Batteries

Abstract: The poly (vinylidene fluoride)/poly (methyl methacrylate)(PVDF/PMMA) composite fibrous membranes with different blend ratio for use as separator of lithium-ion batteries have been developed by electrospinning technique. The surface morphology and crystal structure of electrospun PVDF/PMMA composite fibrous membranes are characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).The results in… Show more

“…However, the TTTT chain conformation of form is difficult to obtain. 29 The characteristic peaks for crystalline phase at 795, 854, 974, and 1382 cm À1 could be seen from the FTIR spectrum of PVDF solid film presented in Figure 2(a). In contrast, for the electrospun PVDF membrane before annealing, only a small amount of from crystallite remained and strong characteristic peaks of form at 841 and 1278 cm À1 were observed, suggesting that most PVDF chains can directly form ferroelectric phase crystalline during electrospinning.…”

“…15 Both Li et al and Liang et al have prepared electrospun PVDF/PMMA membranes as separators for lithium ion batteries. 28,29 Danno et al have investigated the crystallization behavior of PVDF after the PMMA component was extracted from the electrospun PVDF/PMMA (50/50) membrane. 20 The thermal stability plays a very important role in the application of PVDF, and many researchers have studied the annealing effect on the structure and the melting behavior of PVDF.…”

“…131 Further, the piezoelectric effect increases with the addition of PMMA to PVDF. 132 This blend has been applied in optical applications, 92 separator membranes for Li-ion batteries, 133 controllable wettability switching triggered by external electric field, 134 pyroelectric application, 135 as well as a coating for the conservation of historic structures exposed to atmospheric agents, 136 among several other applications.…”

“…139 Liang et al previously created PVDF/PMMA composite polymeric fiber membranes with varying blending ratios and applied them to the usage of electrolytes in LMBs. 140 The introduction of PMMA increased the diameter size of spun fibers, reduced the degree of crystallization of PVDF, and greatly heightened the ionic conductivity of CPEs (2.54 mS cm −1 ). Yang et al explored the construction of a new type of CPE with the introduction of PEO and LiNO 3 components under the premise of coblending PVDF with PMMA.…”
