Preparation and characterization of graphene oxide and it application as a reinforcement in polypropylene composites

Abstract: In this article, graphene oxide (GO) is modified using Phosphorous acid via the strong –P = O in the study reported in the paper. And the chemical structure was characterized by Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X‐ray diffraction. And polypropylene (PP) composites are prepared by melt compounding method, and functionalized graphene oxide (FGO) is in situ thermally reduced during the processing. The thermal stability, mechani… Show more

“…Through grafting, the hydrophobic groups on the GO surface products compatible with hydrophobic polypropylene were obtained. The GO modified with linear alkyl chain [35], dodecyl amine [36] and phosphorus acid [37] exhibited better dispersion. Simultaneously, with better dispersibility the nucleating ability of the functionalized GO was improved.…”

“…Various functional treatments or synergistic addition of flame retardants have been performed on graphene surfaces, including the incorporation of P, N, or Si [201][202][203][204][205][206][207][208][209][210][211][212]. Hu et al, [62] synthesized a functionalized graphene oxide (FGO) gra ed to a hyper-branched flame retardant based on N-aminoethyl piperazine and a phosphonate derivative to reduce the flammability and toxic gas release of polystyrene (PS).…”

“…[ 7–11 ] These advantages make basalt fiber reinforced polypropylene composites (BFRPPs) to be more suitable for the higher demands occasion compared with ordinary PP composites. [ 12–15 ] The basalt fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites are still in the development stage around the world with great application prospects. [ 8,10,12,14 ] Nevertheless, BFRPPs will inevitably encounter fire situations during the service.…”
