Preparation and Characterization of Immobilized Chelate Extractant in PVA Gel Beads for an Efficient Recovery of Copper(II) in Aqueous Solution

Abstract: To efficiently recover metals from aqueous solutions using solvent extractions, the various types of immobilized chelate extractants have been proposed because the conventional liquid-liquid extraction requires a large quantity of organic solvents and a complicated equipment system. As a basis of developing a safer, simpler, and more environment-friendly chelate extraction process, in the present work, a commercial chelate extractant, 5-dodecylsalicylaldoxime in kerosene (LIX860-I), was originally immobilized … Show more

“…These composites have been termed as extractant‐impregnated polymeric beads (EIPBs). These beads, with suitable porosity and hydrophilicity have been demonstrated as promising materials for the extraction of metal ions from aqueous medium . Present investigation deals with the preparation of new EIPBs, containing di(2‐ethylhexyl) phosphonic acid (D2EHPA) as an organic extractant to provide desired functionality and specificity, coupled with large capacity for uranium uptake.…”

“…11 A PVA gel was used for recovering copper(II) in aqueous solutions containing cupric sulfate (0.4-0.7 wt % in CuSO 4 3 5H 2 O). 12 Pluronic F127, H-(OC 2 H 4 ) n (OC 3 H 6 ) m (OC 2 H 4 ) n -OH (also known as poloxamer 407), is a triblock linear copolymer consisting of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) blocks (70%) and poly(propylene oxide) (PPO) blocks (30%). At low temperatures, PPO blocks have only weak hydrophobic properties.…”

“…Therefore, various such resins have been developed [12][13][14][15][16]. Further progressing on this we have anticipated that plutonium selective ligand BenzoDODA encapsulated in polymer matrix may provide suitable material for separation of plutonium from dilute process streams.…”
