Preparation and characterization of melt‐stretched polypropylene–polypropylene‐g‐poly(α‐methyl styrene‐co‐glycidyl methacrylate‐co‐γ‐methacryloxypropyl trimethoxy silane)–silicon dioxide compound microporous membranes

Abstract: Polypropylene (PP)–silicon dioxide (SiO2) compound microporous membranes were fabricated by a melt‐stretching method. Although the permeability, porosity, and hydrophilicity values of the microporous membranes were found to be highest at an SiO2 content of 2 wt %, the heat resistance of the membranes was relatively low. To improve the heat resistance of the microporous membranes, a macromolecular coupling agent, PP‐g‐poly(α‐methyl styrene‐co‐glycidyl methacrylate‐co‐γ‐methacryloxypropyl trimethoxy silane) (PAG… Show more

“…23,24 More importantly, the price of AMS is low because it mainly comes from the by-product of acetone and phenol prepared by oxidation of isopropyl benzene. 25 Our laboratory has developed a series of AMS copolymers, such as AMS-co-glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), AMS-co-styrene (St) and AMS-alt-maleic anhydride, 26,27 and various block polymers were prepared using these copolymers as macroinitiators, 28,29 but we did not study whether these copolymers can be employed in PISA. Based on the above consideration, developing a novel macroinitiator of maleic anhydride copolymer derivatives with a simple structure and using no RAFT dormancy groups will further expand the horizon of PISA and facilitate its industrial scale application.…”

“…Due to the high viscosity and poor fluidity of UHMWPE, conventional mechanical processing methods are difficult to process, and they are usually formed by special methods, such as thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) [ 26 , 27 , 28 ], thermally induced phase separation stretching (TIPS-S) [ 29 ], melt extrusion stretching [ 30 , 31 ], the nuclear track method [ 32 ], and powder sintering method [ 33 , 34 , 35 ]. Nevertheless, these methods have their deficiencies such as complicated operations, long molding times, and less choice of shape and size of the products.…”
