Preparation and Characterization of Nanostructured Manganese Oxide for Supercapacitors

Abstract: Nanostructured manganese oxides were synthesized by a sol-gel method using manganese acetate (MnAc2) and citric acid (C6H8O7,) as precursors, and characterized by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis, Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques. The nano-rod structure of MnO2 developed gradually when the calcination temperature varied from 380 to 580 degrees C. As the pH increased, the pore size increased, whi… Show more

“…20 Pure MnO 2 synthesized from the hydrothermal reaction had XRD diffraction peaks at 2q of 12.8, 18.1, 28.9, 37.5, 42, 49.9, 60.3 and 65.4°, representing the (110), ( 200), (310), ( 211), (301), ( 411), ( 600) and (002) planes of hollanditetype a-MnO 2 , respectively (JCPDS 44-0141). [21][22][23] Compared to BGC and NBGC, the MnO 2 /NBGC composite products at all MnO 2 loading concentrations showed common XRD peaks at 2q of approximately 38°and 67°, consistent with the main characteristic crystalline planes of a-MnO 2 . All the diffraction peaks obtained from the deposited MnO 2 nanoparticles were quite weak and broad, denoting their nanocrystalline nature.…”

“…In the present scenario, the materials with promising properties for high power electrochemical energy storage are in high Cocoon-like and nanorod-like morphology Homogeneity, enhanced cyclability [84] demand for applications varying from electric vehicles to smart grids. Electrochemical capacitors provide a very significant response for these applications, owing to the energy and power densities in between that of dielectric capacitors and batteries.…”
