Preparation and Characterization of SiC Fibers from PCS by Electrospinning, Curing and Calcination Process**

Abstract: Silicon carbide (SiC) possesses unique properties and is widely applied in household and military uses. This study explored the manufacturing process of SiC fibers. In the experiment, polycarbosilane (PCS) was dissolved in a mixed solvent of C8H10 and dimethylformamide (DMF) to form a solution, and electrospinning was employed to synthesize PCS fibers. PCS fibers underwent a curing process and a 2 h calcination at 1200 °C in N2 atmosphere to convert PCS fibers into β‐SiC fibers. The solute recruitment, solvent… Show more

“…The characteristic peak of the FTIR spectra of PCS at 2100 cm -1 corresponded to the Si-H. The absorption peak at 1250 cm -1 was ascribed to the Si-CH3 [35]. The characteristic FT-IR peaks of PCS and M-PCS were almost identical.…”

“…Chemical vapour deposition-derived SiC nanotubes annealed at 1600 • C in an argon environment provided nanocrystalline β-SiC or β-SiC/C composites in the shape of the source nanotubes, whilst liquid precursor-derived nanostructures converted to single crystal SiC nanofibers [80]. In an electrospinning approach, polycarbosilane fibres with a diameter of 1 µm were calcined at 1200 • C for 2 h to transform into β-SiC fibres with a diameter of 0.8 µm [81].…”
