Preparation and Characterization of Sonneratia Alba Leaf Extract Microcapsules by Solvent Evaporation Technique

Abstract: Objective: Sonneratia alba leaves were used by the community for traditional medicine to cure muscle pain, back pain, antioxidants, rheumatism, malaria, wounds, tuberculosis (TB) and as a spermicide. S. alba leaves extract was easy to damage because of the light exposure, change of pH, weather and a long period of storage time. The problem can be solved by coating the extract with a microencapsulation technique. The purpose of this research was to formulate the microcapsules of S. alba leaves extract with solv… Show more

“…A DPPH (2′2-diphenyl-l-picrylhydrazyl) free radical assay was used to find out how well PHF scavenged free radicals. The present study employed a methodology similar to previous approaches, although with some modifications [40][41][42]. One ml of PHF with concentrations of 12.5, 25, 50, 100, and 200 g/ml was mixed with a new two ml methanolic solution of DPPH (40 g/ml).…”

“…The solvent evaporation method has been used extensively to prepare polymeric microparticles containing many different drugs. Several variables have been identified which can influence the properties of the microparticles, including drug solubility, internal morphology, solvent type, diffusion rate, temperature, polymer composition and viscosity, and drug loading 1–7 . The effectiveness of the solvent evaporation method to produce microparticles depends on the successful entrapment of the active agent within the microparticles 8–14 .…”

“…Microparticulate drug delivery systems are used to prolong the delivery of the drug, to improve bioavailability, to enhance stability and to target the drug to a specific site 12–15,22 . The physical properties of the obtained microparticles are strongly dependent on the nature of the materials and also on the parameters during the manufacture of the microparticles 3–6,27–34 . A complicated array of factors including type of polymer, polymer molecular weight, polymer concentration, drug loading, type of solvent, the nature of any excipients added to the microparticle formulation (e.g.…”
