Preparation and characterization of UV‐cured hybrid coatings by triethoxysilane‐modified dimethacrylate based on bisphenol‐s epoxy

Abstract: Novel hybrid oligomers based on a UV-curable bisphenol-S epoxy dimethacrylate (DBSMA) were synthetized. DBSMA was modified with various amount of (3-isocyanatopropyl)triethoxysilane coupling agent. The modification degree of the hybrid oligomer was varied from 0 to70 wt %. The photopolymerization kinetics was monitored by a real-time infrared spectroscopy. The conversion and rate of hybrid coatings increased with the increase in modification degree. UV-curable, hard, and transparent organic-inorganic hybrid co… Show more

“…Adhesion is one of the key phenomena in obtaining good mechanical and other physico‐chemical properties of coating materials . In general, the adhesive strength at the interface is decided by three factors: specific interaction like electrostatic interaction (hydrogen bond and van‐der Waals force), effect of polymerization shrinkage, and other factors (an anchor effect at the interface) . The result of adhesion test is shown in Table , which proves that the adhesion between EAs and the substrates are all quite strong.…”

“…The hardness of the coating is important to affect the abrasion and scratch resistance . With other properties identical, the abrasive wear rate of a material has been reported to be inversely proportional to its hardness . Chain flexibility and cross‐linking degree of the network play a major role in the value of hardness .…”

“…Li et al synthesized a hybrid oligomer through the modification of a bisphenol-S epoxy dimethacrylate with different amounts of 3-isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane, used both as coupling agent and silica source [40]. The modification degree of the hybrid oligomer was varied from 0 to 70 wt.%.…”

“…Photopolymerization, characterized by very fast network formation, is essential for a wide range of applications such as protective and decorative coatings, dental materials, or 3D lithography . The photopolymerization of employed multifunctional methacrylates usually creates inhomogeneous and rather brittle polymer networks via a radical chain growth mechanism.…”
