Preparation and characterizations of inherent flame retarded polyamide 66 containing the phosphorus linking pendent group

Abstract: Polyamide 66 (PA66) containing the phosphorus linking pendent group with inherent flame retardancy property was prepared by condensation polymerization of hexamethylene diammonium adipate (AH salt) and 9,10-dihydro-10-[2,3-di(hydroxycarbonyl)propyl]-10phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DDP) as a co-monomer. Prior to condensation polymerization, DDP was reacted with hexamethylene diamine (HMDA), which made DDP easier to react with AH salt. Then, the DDP-HMDA was introduced into AH salt solution to prepare inherent f… Show more

“…They could promote the dehydration into carbon and make the carbon layer denser, thus improving the ame-retardancy of FRPA66. 24 In summary, introduction of CPPOA to PA66 could effectively improve the ame retardancy.…”

“…As the content of ame-retardant increased, its relative viscosity decreased, which could be attributed to the incorporation of CPPOA. The phenyl groups of CPPOA were bulky, which partially hindered polymerization, 24,28 and hence the viscosity decreased.…”

“…Recently, 9,10-dihydro-10-[2,3-di(hydroxycarbonyl)propyl]-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DDP), a kind of DOPO derivatives, has attracted the attention of researchers due to its high reactivity, high thermal stability and its high ame retardant efficiency. [19][20][21] When DDP as monomer was incorporated into polymers, the generated copolymer exhibited good ame retardancy. Chang et al synthesized a series of ame retardant poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) with the introduction of DDP.…”

“…From a flame-retardant application perspective, the mechanism of action of phosphorus-based flame retardant additives occurs mainly during the combustion stage [16][17][18][19][20][21]. Nonetheless, the present work provides evidence that the P-glass mode of action in PA66 happens during the melt processing operations.…”
