Preparation and properties of novel tung oil and linseed oil modified lignin phenolic resin

Abstract: Replacing petroleum‐based raw materials with renewable materials is now obviously more in line with the needs of sustainable development. In this work, lignin, tung oil and linseed oil were selected to prepare tung oil modified lignin based phenolic resin (T‐LPF) and linseed oil modified lignin based phenolic resin (L‐LPF). T‐LPF and L‐LPF were characterized by FTIR, DSC, DMA, TGA, universal testing machine, SEM, friction and wear tester and 3D profilometer. The results show that compared with PF and LPF, the … Show more

“…Our research group has also made some good progresses in the modi cation and preparation of biobased phenolic resin, and the modi ed phenolic resin has been signi cantly improved in mechanical properties and thermal properties. By step-by-step polymerization method, with tung oil, linseed oil and lignin as modi ers, xu et al [40] successfully prepared tung oil-modi ed lignin-based phenolic resin (T-LPF) and linseed oil modi ed lignin-based phenolic resin (L-LPF). The introduction of tung oil and linseed oil can reduce the vulcanization activity and increase the vulcanization peak temperature.…”

“…After the reaction, the product was naturally cooled to room temperature and cleaned for 3 times in ultrasonic cleaner with absolute ethanol and deionized water, and the product and impurities were then separated by suction ltration with Buchner funnel. Finally, the product was dehydrated and dried in vacuum oven at 65°C for 48 h to obtain traditional PF [40][41] .…”

“…9 The ester bond and conjugated triple bond of tung oil provide numerous active sites for further modification and polymerization. A variety of polymeric materials have been prepared from tung oil, especially in the field of thermosetting resins, such as acrylic resins, 10 phenolic resin, 11 and epoxy resin. 12 Traditional thermosetting resins exhibit excellent mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and heat resistance.…”
