The four chelate polymer complexes commonly called as coordination polymers of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) ions with fbpmpc (fbpmpc = fumaroyl bis (paramethoxyphenylcarbamide)) were synthesized and characterised by elemental analyses, infrared spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance, magnetic moment susceptibility, thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, electrical conductivity and scanning electron microscopy technique (SEM). SEM investigations of coordination polymers were found in different shapes and sizes, though they are synthesized from a single ligand. The corresponding N-hydroximide and N-methyl-N-hydroximide of poly[ethylene-alt-(maleic anhydride)] (weight average molecular weight (M w ) of 100-500 g mol −1 ) were prepared as a new oral drug delivery system. Syntheses of N-hydroximide and N-methylhydroxamic acid of poly[ethylene-alt-(maleic anhydride)] were carried out by chemical modification of polymer with hydroxylamine and N-methylhydroxylamine, respectively, to give water-soluble polymers. These activated polymers were immobilized with ketoprofen in the presence of dicyclohexylcarbodiimide to give the corresponding water-insoluble ketoprofen conjugates. All products were characterized by elemental analysis as well as Fourier transform infrared and 1 H NMR spectra. In vitro release of ketoprofen was studied by measuring UV absorption at λ max = 260 nm as a function of time. This study demonstrated the potential use of N-hydroximide and N-methyl-N-hydroxamic acid of poly[ethylene-alt-(maleic anhydride)] as a drug delivery system. Controlled release was studied at different pH values and at different temperatures. At physiological temperature, the amount of drug released increased with increasing pH. The copolymer-drug adducts released the drug very slowly at the low pH found in the stomach thus protecting the drug from the action of high acid conditions and resident digestive enzymes. These N-hydroxamic acid polymer-drug conjugates were found to be potentially useful in the delivery of macromolecular drugs to targeted sites in the lower gastrointestinal tract and the colon area.

Abstract:The copolymer (2, 2'-HBBF) synthesized by the condensation of 2, 2'-dihydroxybiphenyl (2, 2'-HB) and biuret (B) with formaldehyde (F) in the presence of acid catalyst using 1:1:2 molar proportions of the reacting monomers. The thermogravimetric analysis of copolymer resin prepared in the present study has been carried out by non-isothermal thermogravimetric analysis technique in which sample is subjected to condition of continuous increase in temperature at linear rate. The advantage of Freeman-Carroll method is to calculate both the order of reaction (n) and energy of activation in one single stage by keeping heating rate constant. By using data of thermogravimetric analysis, various thermogravimetric parameters like frequency factor (Z), entropy change (ΔS), free energy change (ΔF) and apparent entropy (S*) have been determined using Freeman-Carroll method. The electrical properties of 2, 2'-HBBF copolymers were measured over a wide range of temperature (303-423 K). From the electrical conductivity of these copolymers, activation energies of electrical conduction have been evaluated and values lies in the range 3.01x10 -20 -6.43x10 20 J/K. On the basis of above studies, these copolymers can be ranked as semiconductors.
