Preparation of {110} textured Ag ribbons for biaxially aligned superconducting tapes

Abstract: The aim of our work is to produce biaxially aligned HTS conductors by epitaxial growth on textured Ag. This paper will focus on the preparation of long length textured Ag ribbons. After cold rolling and annealing in vacuum at 800"C, different { llO}cuvw> directions appear in the recrystallized pure Ag ribbons. The {11O}c112> texture is obtained after cold rolling by adding a 500°C step before the annealing at 800°C. If the Ag ingots are annealed at 600°C in vacuum before the cold rolling, the 800°C annealing le… Show more

“…A weak {110} 011 texture was obtained in Ar-1% H 2 annealed Ag-1 wt% Mg ribbons by Gladstone et al [19]. As in our previous studies [18,34], the authors mention the crucial rule of oxygen contamination during the texturing process but the effect of a second annealing for internal oxidation was not studied.…”

“…Different kinds of textures such as {100} 001 [15,33], {110} 112 [16] and {110} 011 [18,19,34] can be produced in pure Ag by particular deformation and recrystallization processes. From the point of view of epitaxial growth, the (110) Ag orientation is the most appropriate for the preparation of superconducting tapes [11,14], the {110} 011 texture being preferred because of the particular twins of the {110} 112 texture [34]. A key factor in obtaining the {110} 011 texture in pure Ag is to control the oxygen content in the initial ingot before the deformation [19].…”

“…The films are realized by electrochemical deposition in a 3-electrode system on suitable substrates: silver [12] and strontium titanate (STO, SrTiO 3 ) intentionally metallized via sputtering; a flat cell is employed. The working, counter and reference electrodes are the chosen substrate, platinum grid, and Ag/AgNO 3 0.1 M in Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO, Sigma-Aldrich, 99.9%, anhydrous, suresealed grade), respectively.…”
