Preparation of an Anion Exchange Membrane by Pyridine-Functionalized Polyether Ether Ketone To Improve Alkali Resistance Stability for an Alkali Fuel Cell

Abstract: A highly stable anion exchange membrane (AEM) is constructed by linking bipyridine to a polyetheretherketone (PEEK) polymer. First, PEEK is prepared by the polycondensation reaction; N-bromosuccinimide and benzoyl peroxide are used for the bromination reaction; and then pyridine or 4,4′-bipyridine is connected to PEEK by the Friedel–Crafts alkylation reaction. The successful preparation of the target product was confirmed by the collaborative analysis of the Fourier transform infrared spectrum and 1H nuclear m… Show more

“…This may be due to the fact that the large side-chains can spatially separate the electron-absorbing effect of cations from the aromatic C-O bond, thus improving the alkaline stability of AEMs. [17][18][19][20][21] In addition, the heterocyclic quaternary ammonium salt has higher base stability compared to the conventional trimethylamine structure. This is proved by both experimental and DFT theoretical calculation.…”

“…Direct cross‐linking of conductive polymer chains is a straightforward and effective method for constructing conductive hydrogel networks (Figure 2A). For example, aniline, 34 pyridine 35 and 3,4‐ethylene two oxygen thiophene 36 are well‐known conductive monomers for fabricating conductive hydrogels. This strategy is widely used to prepare conductive hydrogels for flexible electronics applications.…”
