“…The hydration of the C 4 A 3 S phase follows a very rapid hydration reaction, leading to the formation of needle-like ettringite, which is responsible for the quick setting of the sulphoaluminate cements. Some studies have also showed that cementitious material containing tricalcium silicate 3CaO•SiO 2 (C 3 S) and C 4 A 3 S exhibit a more excellent performance to resist physical attack and chemical corrosion in severely corrosive environment than ordinary Portland cement or sulfate-resisting Portland cement [1,2]. In this paper, the firing temperature and mineral formation process in the cement clinker containing the main minerals C 3 S and C 4 A 3 S will be studied.…”

“…Although many theories are put forward for the purpose of improving the durability of concrete in such areas, from the long-term point of view, the most effective way to solve the durability problem in high-bittern environment is to research and develop a special kind of cementitious materials which could resist such physical attacks or chemical corrosion. Bittern-resisting cement (BR) is a new kind of cement prepared for high-bittern environment, which is composed of Portland cement clinker containing C 4 A 3 S phase, high-activity ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS) and fly ash (FA) in a ternary cementitious system [6,7]. This kind of cementitious materials can result in increasing the early strength and long-term strength, reducing the possibility for the formation of harmful products such as gypsum and ettringite, densifying the microstructure and improving chemical stability because of pozzolanic reaction and dominant complementation effect of mineral materials among slag, fly ash and cement clinker.…”
