Preparation of electrospun EDTA/PVDF blend nonwoven mats and their use in removing heavy metal ions from electropolishing electrolyte

Abstract: EDTA/PVDF electrospun nonwoven mats were produced by electrospinning and their heavy metal removal efficiency was evaluated by chelating filtration using electropolishing electrolyte as the processing target. Scanning electron microscopic (SEM) images revealed that the electrospun nonwoven mats comprised randomly oriented PVDF fibers (avg. diameter=476±145 nm) whose surfaces were decorated with EDTA particles. Attenuated total reflectance infrared (ATR-IR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) indicated t… Show more

“…For the AIEM, due to the sulfonation, the peak of the C=O group shifted to 288.7 eV and its intensity decreased; moreover, the content of the CH 2 group increased and the CF 2 group decreased [21]. The N 1s spectrum could be fitted with two peaks which were attributed to the –N(CH 3 ) 2 group at 400.9 eV and the –NH + (CH 3 ) 2 group at 402.1 eV (Figure 7d) [45,46]. This result further proved the successful grafting, sulfonation, and protonation of PDMAEMA units in the AIEM after acid treatment and hydrolysis.…”

“…32,33 Through physical or chemical modication, electrospun PVDF nano-bers can be used in the application of heavy metal ions adsorption. [34][35][36][37] As reported by the literatures, polypyrrole (PPy) was widely used to reduce high valence of Mn compounds to prepare MnO 2 . 38,39 However, the uniform coating of PPy by in situ polymerization of pyrrole monomer usually occurred on the surface of polymer nanober with hydrophilicity.…”
