Preparation of Modified Titanate Nanotubes and Its Application in Polyurethane Nanocomposites

Abstract: Summary This work presents the preparation of modified titanates nanotubes with tetraethyl orthosilicate (TNT‐TEOS) and their use in the synthesis of TNT‐TEOS/polyurethane nanocomposite by in situ polymerization. The filler was added in a proportion of 1% (w/w) relative to the polyol weight. The TNT‐TEOS presented a specific surface area of 127 m2/g lower than that obtained for TNT (177 m2/g). The addition of TNT‐TEOS in a polyurethane matrix promoted an increase in thermal stability of the polymer when compar… Show more

“…2). These results are in agreement with those found by Monteiro et al 22 . Figures 3 shows the diffraction pattern obtained of TiO 2 precursor (anatase phase) and the characteristics peaks are situated at 2θ= 25° (101), 38° (004), 48° (200), 53° (106) and 62° (215) in agreement with the assignments described in literature 26,27 .…”

“…It is possible to observe that the nanotubes are formed by winding at least three titanates multilayer lamellar walls and have an external diameter of 8.3 ± 0.9 nm (NaTNT) and 8.7 ± 0.6 nm (ZnTNT). These results are in agreement with those found by Monteiro et al…”

“…Pure PU and PU nanocomposites (modified TNTs) were synthesized according to the literature , using a 500 mL glass reactor with five inputs, coupled to a mechanical stirrer, thermocouple (temperature control), reflux system, and an addition funnel. Pure PU was obtained by reacting PCL with H at a 1:1 molar ratio in 100 mL of MEK under inert atmosphere (N 2 ), at 40°C for 2.5 h. DBTDL was used as the catalyst (0.1 wt% in relation to the total weight of reactants).…”
