Preparation of polyaniline-modified local clay and study of its sorption capacity

Abstract: Clay minerals are frequently used in adsorption processes with aqueous solution; it was found that the adsorption properties of clays change when the samples are modified. In this context, polyaniline-modified clay nanocomposite (at 10 %) was prepared by in situ polymerization processes. The structural and morphological characteristics of the synthesized material are systematically examined by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, thermo-gravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry and infrared spe… Show more

“…According to the figure 5 given in supplementary material, an absence of adsorption of SMT onto ZnO immobilized on glass plate was observed, this results could be attributed to the absence of electronic attraction between SMT and the catalyst. Indeed, the SMT presents a neutral form for pH values in the range 2.5 to 7.5 and the point of zero charge (pH pzc ) of ZnO is 8.6 [39,40]. The photolysis of SMT was studied for an initial SMT concentration of 50 mg/L in the absence of ZnO for 60 min.…”

“…The investigated dye (Gentian violet) is extensively used in the textile, paper, and many industries. Gentian violet is hazardous compound and suspected to be toxic and carcinogenic for humans and animals [17,18]. The efficiency of the GV photocatalytic degradation reaction was studied under different experimental conditions, the influence of several experimental parameters, such as the adsorption of dye onto ZnO surface, the initial dye concentration, the initial pH, the addition of HCO − 3 ion and the addition of hydrogen peroxide, upon the GV degradation rate constant was also investigated.…”

“…Many factors have a great effect on the properties of the nanocomposite such as kaolinite particle size, dopant type and concentration, the temperature of polymerization, aniline to oxidant molar ratio, uniformity of dispersion, and the structural bond between polymer and kaolinite . Kaolinite, PANI, and their nanocomposites can be used in supercapacitors , biosensors , dye and heavy metal adsorption , conductive fillers , optoelectronics, electromagnetic interference devices and corrosion protection .…”
