Preparation of polydivinylbenzene/natural rubber capsule encapsulating octadecane: Influence of natural rubber molecular weight and content

Abstract: Abstract. The encapsulation of octadecane (OD) as heat storage material was studied. The core-shell polydivinylbenzene (PDVB)/natural rubber (NR) capsules encapsulating OD was prepared using the Self-assembling of Phase Separated Polymer (SaPSeP) method by suspension polymerization. The mixture of dispersed phase consisting of DVB, NR, OD and benzoyl peroxide was added in polyvinyl alcohol aqueous solution and then homogenized at 5,000 rpm for 5 minutes. The obtained monomer droplet emulsion was subsequently p… Show more

“…In our previous works, the core-shell particles were formed for PMMA [31] and PDVB [18][19][20][21]26,28,31,32] shells whereas most of the obtained PS [31] microcapsule were broken after washing with 2-propanol. The capsule shapes were quite different between PDVB/RT27 and PMMA/RT27 where the nonspherical with a dent and multiple dents were observed for PDVB and PMMA shells, respectively.…”

“…In addition, the relationship between internal viscosity and molecular weight of the polymer inside the polymerizing particle during polymerization is also important effect [13] . We have successfully prepared microencapsulated PDVB/OD [19][20][21] by the microsuspension polymerization. The core-shell capsules were observed with optical and transmission electron microscopes of the cross-section capsule [20] according with the other reports [25,26,28,29] .…”

“…Through encapsulation of PCMs: (1) heat transfer area is increased, (2) PCM's reactivity with the outside environment is reduced, and (3) changes in the volume of the storage material during phase change are controlled [3]. As seen from the literature, many studies used conventional encapsulation of PCM such as emulsion polymerization [4][5][6], complex coacervation [7,8], suspension polymerization [9,10], in situ polymerization [11,12], and interfacial polycondensation [13,14], but there are only few studies in literature on microencapsulation of PCM using electrospray. Therefore, encapsulation of PCM using electrospray, especially melt coaxial electrospray, remains an innovative field.…”
