Preparation of polyoxometalate-doped aminosilane-modified silicate hybrid as a new barrier of chem-bio toxicant

Abstract: A B S T R A C T Nanohybrid membranes based on the Keggin-type polyoxometalate (POM) H 5 PV 2 Mo 10 O 40 and aminosilanemodified silicate (Ormosil and Ormosil(NR 4 + Cl − )) hybrids were synthesized as a new barrier to protect against simulants of chemical and biological toxicant. The 31 P NMR and XPS results indicated that POM was bound to the Ormosil and Ormosil(NR 4 + Cl − ) hybrids after impregnation. The antibacterial effects of the hybrids and hybrid-impregnated fabrics against Gram-negative and Gram-posi… Show more

“…AgNPs are closely related to antimicrobial ability, which depends on the AgNPs content in Pc-Ormosil. Compared with the results of our previous literature [7,8,22], the AgPc-Ormosil/Ag composites exhibit better antimicrobial properties than Ormosil(NR 4 + Cl − )/Ag, Ormosil/POM, and Ormosil(NR 4 + Cl − )/POM. These results may be due to the relatively small and uniform distribution of AgNPs in the AgPc-Ormosil/Ag composites.…”

“…Ormosils have been shown to be excellent hosts for the capture of metal nanoparticles due to their ability to act as stabilizers or surface-capping agents [5,6]. When metal nanoparticles are embedded or chelated in Ormosil, Ormosil is able to control nucleation to terminate particle growth [7]. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have attracted much attention due to their ease of synthesis, chemical stability, and antimicrobial properties.…”

“…13,14 The choice of a decontamination treatment depends on the use of technology, the biocide efficiency of the treatment, the type of the contaminated surface, and the basic materials needed for decontamination. [15][16][17][18] The present study was designed to reect, as realistically as possible, the conditions that would be encountered in decontaminating a building or outdoor area contaminated with chemical warfare agent simulants (DMMP and 2-CEES) and biological toxins (E. coli, P. aeruginosa, B. subtilis, and S. aureus). Specically, the study used disinfectants that were past their expiration dates, test coupons of porous and nonporous building materials, and a variety of commercially available sporicidal disinfectants that were sprayed onto the test coupons in a manner similar to that used in the eld.…”
