Preparation of Rutile Titanium Dioxide White Pigment via Doping and Calcination of Metatitanic Acid Obtained by the NaOH Molten Salt Method

Abstract: Rutile titanium dioxide (TiO2) white pigment has been prepared by doping and calcination of metatitanic acid (H2TiO3) obtained by the NaOH molten salt method. It was found that the properties of the rutile TiO2 sample prepared were improved by adding K2O, P2O5, Al2O3, and rutile nuclei. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) results show the rutile content of the rutile TiO2 sample prepared is 97%, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results show that the rutile TiO2 particles prepared have well-shaped morphology and … Show more

“…Platinum is used as the counter electrode to collect electron from the external circuit and catalyze the redox couple regeneration reaction [1][2][3][4][5]. The nanocrystalline TiO 2 is used in many applications such as photocatalytic, photovoltaic, pigments, paints and antimicrobial activities [6][7][8][9][10]. Different types of physical and chemical methods such as chemical vapor deposition [11], hydrothermal [12], solvothermal [13], sol-gel [14], Sonochemical method [15], microwave method [16], and Electrophoretic deposition [17] were used to prepare TiO 2 nanoparticles.…”

“…The separated rutile from slags can be further treated through hydrochloric acid leaching method for TiO 2 white pigment production or used as raw materials in titanium metallurgy. [10][11][12][13] The most important considerations of SCPS method are the selection and formation of Ti-enriched phases. The primary crystalline phase of the industrial Ti-BF slags is perovskite, the crystallization behaviors of which have been studied by many researchers.…”

“…[11,12] In this new method, natural rutile ore was pre-treated with molten NaOH to destroy its stable structure for the preparation of Na 2 TiO 3 intermediate products. It is based on the NaOH molten salt process with high-grade titanium slag as a raw material reported in our previous study.…”

[11,12] In this new method, natural rutile ore was pre-treated with molten NaOH to destroy its stable structure for the preparation of Na 2 TiO 3 intermediate products. Then, the intermediate products were washed with water, dissolved in acid and hydrolyzed for TiO 2 production.…”
