Preparation of Semi IPNs-Hydrogel Composite for Removing Congo Red and Bismarck Brown Y from Wastewater: Kinetic and Thermodynamic Study

Abstract: Modified acrylamide-based semi-interpenetrating polymer network (semi-IPN) hydrogel composites were prepared for Congo red (CR) and Bismarck brown Y (BBY) dyes adsorption from aqueous solutions. Adsorption for both dyes was studied in batch mode and results show adsorption highly dependent on concentration, solution pH, and contact time. The prepared hydrogels exhibited a high adsorption capability. Also, the kinetic studies indicated that the adsorption of dyes followed the pseudosecond-order model and was fo… Show more

“…Further, the values of coefficient of determination, R 2 > 0.9, for MB and S dyes, adsorption confirm the best fit [39]. However, pseudo-second order plot (t/q t vs. t) shown in Figures (16) and (17), did not indicate a good compliance for MB and S dyes adsorption and thus proves the no proximity of the model against the examined data. The intraparticle diffusion mechanism ascribes to the travelling of dye molecules from the bulk of the solution to the solid adsorbent.…”

“…In addition these methods required high energy, chemical, operational and capital inputs, and advanced technologies. Among advanced treatment methods, adsorption has been found to be good treatment technology for dye removal [13,14], and the researchers have relied on many ideas and new materials used as adsorbent surfaces [15,16].…”

“…In addition to that, repulsion occurs between the negatively charged functional aggregates on the adsorbent surface, swelling, and expansion occur, allowing the adsorbate particles to spread within the adsorbent surface. So, the optimum adsorption conditions for TC and PH were pH > 7 [38][39].…”
