Preparation of silver nanoparticles supported mesoporous silica microspheres with perpendicularly aligned mesopore channels and their antibacterial activities

Abstract: In this study, a facile and effective route for the preparation of silver nanoparticles supported surface mesoporous silica microspheres with perpendicularly aligned mesopore channels and their antibacterial activities were reported. The surface mesoporous silica microspheres (mSiO 2 ) were synthesized by a sol-gel method. The mSiO 2 were then functionalized with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTS) to provide amino functional groups for the absorption of Ag + . Silver nanoparticles were directly created on the… Show more

“…The MIC of S. aureus was slightly higher than E. coli, which could be ascribed to its thicker cell wall, thus higher dose of the antibacterial agent was necessary to inhibit the growth of bacterial. So far as we have been concerned, the obtained effective inhibition concentration was much lower than a majority of mesoporous silica-supported Ag nanoparticles (typical 100-1000 mg/L) [58][59][60][61] and slightly lower than the result reported by Jiang and his coworkers [47]. According to the ICP-AES measurement, the weight content of Ag NPs in AgNPs@ WMSs-SO 3 − was 8.32%, thus the actual concentration of Ag NPs worked in the MIC can be calculated and the results were recorded in Table 2.…”
