“…Infrared spectroscopy has been used as a valuable tool to analyze resin bonding and structures in siloxane materials . The characteristic asymmetric absorption of SiOSi groups in the 1030−1150 cm -1 region was found to be dependent upon the length of the repeating units, the size of the siloxane rings, and the symmetry of the molecules (cage vs ladder). For example, Brown 51 reported in a previous publication that the interconversion between cage and ladder phenylsilsesquioxanes can be monitored using infrared spectroscopy. The cage structure exhibited one absorption at 1120−1130 cm -1 (T 8 , T 10 , and T 12 ), while two absorptions at 1045 and 1135−1150 cm -1 were found for the proposed “ladder” polymer, regardless of the nature of the R group.…”

“…PTMS as a starting material supplied by Dow Corning Corp. was used without further purification. Oligosiloxanes having silanol and SiOMe groups were synthesized as reported elsewhere,5 whereas that with abundant silanol groups was synthesized by hydrolysis of phenyltrichrolosilane 8. Analytical gas chromatography (GC) was performed using a Shimadzu GC‐14B gas chromatograph equipped with a DB‐5 capillary column (J and W Scientific).…”
