Preparation of Superhydrophobic Cotton Fabric with Ultraviolet Resistance and Photocatalysis Based on CuS/Reduced Graphene Oxide

Abstract: In the present study, the superhydrophobic cotton fabrics with ultraviolet (UV) resistance and photocatalytic properties were fabricated by polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and CuS/reduced graphene oxide (RGO). The CuS/RGO particles enhanced the surface roughness, and PDMS was used to reduce the surface energy of cotton fabrics and increase the adhesion of CuS/RGO particles to cotton fabrics. The water contact angle (WCA) of coated cotton fabrics could reach ∼ 158.4°, endowing the fabrics with excellent self-cleani… Show more

“…Hierarchical micro/nano surface structures were formed by the cotton fabric/rGO/TiO 2 -PDMS multilayers, which made the coated fabric superhydrophobic (WCA = 159.3 • ) and water-repellent; the presence of TiO 2 nanoparticles in the coating made it photoactive and gained the function of photocatalytic degradation of color stains and contaminants under UV radiation. By integrating rGO with the photoactive CuS particles and PDMS, L. Xu et al have fabricated robust superhydrophobic coating on cotton fabrics with excellent UV protection and photodegradation properties [93]. The rGO and CuS particles were encapsulated by the PDMS matrix, which was strongly adhered to the cotton fabric substrate via covalent bonds.…”
