Preparation, spectral characterization and antibacterial studies of silver(I) complexes of 2-mercaptopyridine and thiomalate

Abstract: Silver(I) complexes of 2-mercaptopyridine (Mpy), [Ag(Mpy)]NO3and [Ag(Mpy)2]NO3, and the first mixed-ligand complex having a thione and thiolate coordinated to Ag(I), [Mpy–Ag–Tm] (Tm═thiomalate) have been prepared and characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy. The1H and13C NMR spectra show the presence of both ligands in the mixed-ligand complex, [Mpy–Ag–Tm]. An upfield shift is observed in the >C═S resonance of Mpy and C═O resonances of thiomalate in13C NMR, while the other resonances are shifted downfield. … Show more

“…The antibacterial activities of the complexes are due to a direct interaction of metal ions with biological ligands such as proteins, enzymes and membranes [57][58][59]. The antibacterial activity of Pd(II) complexes may be attributed to their tendency to undergo further ligand replacement reactions with the biological ligands such as proteins and DNA.…”

“…Ultra-violet spectrophotometer in the range (200-1000) on Shimadzu UV-Vis 160 Shimadzu 680cc-flame was used to obtained the atomic absorption measurements of the prepared complex .The values of magnetic susceptibility were obtained at room temperature using Magnetic Susceptibility Balance Bruke Magnet B.M. [6]. Conductivity measurements were carried out by WTW conductivity meter .…”
