Preparation, Structure, Fluorescence and Tddft calculation of a Zinc Biimidazole Complex

Abstract: The complex [Zn(2,2'-biimidazole) 2 H 2 O] 4 (SO 4 )4·12H 2 O has been synthesised by solvothermal reaction and structurally characterised by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The zinc ion coordinates to four nitrogen atoms and one oxygen atom to yield a slightly distorted square pyramid. The [Zn(2,2'-biimidazole)2H 2 O] 2+ cations and SO 4 2anions link to each other by hydrogenbonding interactions to complete a three-dimensional supramolecular framework. The complex exhibits an emission in the blue region and… Show more

“…Moreover, aromatic stacking can also occur as a secondary attractive interaction (i.e., imidazolium cations are electron-poor rings, so the interaction between the π-electrons is usually weak) . Additionally, 2,2′-biimidazole (C 6 H 6 N 4 ) has also proven to be a very useful building unit in the construction of new coordination compounds because of the presence of four nitrogen atoms that allow coordination to different metal centers. Some of them show interesting optical properties such as photoluminescence and fluorescence. , …”

“…Comparing with the neutral 4,4'-bipy, 4,4'-Hbipy cation is easier to form supramolecular frameworks through H-bonding. Our recent efforts in synthesizing novel complex have focused largely on the systems containing bifunctional molecule like 4,4′-bipy [13][14][15][16][17][18][19].…”
