Preparative Isolation of Novel Antimicrobial Compounds from Pergidae sp. by Reversed-Phase High-Performance Liquid Chromatography

Abstract: A novel macrocarpal (macrocarpal M) together with the grandinol (a known plant metabolite of Eucalptus spp.) were isolated from a methanolic extract of sawfly larvae sp. indet. (Australian sawfly, Hymenoptera:Symphyta) using the developed reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) method. To the best of our knowledge, this macrocarpal M is found to have high levels of antimicrobial activity for the first time. The structures of two compounds were identified by ESI-MS, 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, an… Show more

“…The larvae of the Australian Sawfly contain novel macrocarpa and grandinol. These chemical components were assessed against Bacillus subtilis and showed positive antimicrobial effects against the bacteria [ 6 , 251 ]. The larvae of Sawfly Tenthredo zonula Klug also contain phenolic compounds, such as flavonoid glycosides, flavonol oligoglycosides, and naphthodianthrones, and have been evaluated for their health properties [ 252 ].…”
