In the contemporary world, the acquisition of the English language is of paramount importance, on par with scientific knowledge. English serves as the language of instruction for numerous academic publications, the latest scientific breakthroughs, and international conferences. Moreover, it stands as the global language for education. One prominent method to facilitate this second language acquisition is Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL). This study centers on the evaluation of English language proficiency among students at K. Zhubanov Aktobe Regional University, distinguishing between CLIL students and Non-CLIL students. The assessment is conducted through a comprehensive survey, and the study delves into the positive impact of CLIL through interviews with the university's CLIL teachers. The study's findings unequivocally demonstrate that CLIL students exhibit a higher level of English language proficiency compared to their Non-CLIL counterparts. The interviews with CLIL teachers unveil several affirmative effects of CLIL on students, including enhanced English language skills, opportunities for international internships, academic mobility, and the ability to pursue further studies at the Master's degree and PhD study level. В настоящее время овладение английским языком так же актуально, как и наука, потому что большое количество книг, многие из последних научных открытий и исследовательских работ написаны на английском языке, а международные конференции проводятся на английском языке. Одним из подходов к овладению вторым языком является CLIL. В этом исследовании сравнивается уровень владения английским языком студентов CLIL и не-CLIL Актюбинского регионального университета им. К. Жубанова с помощью опроса, а положительные эффекты CLIL обсуждаются с преподавателями CLIL университета посредством интервью. Результаты показали, что студенты CLIL владеют английским языком выше, чем студенты, не обучающиеся CLIL, и во время интервью с преподавателем CLIL было выявлено, что CLIL оказывает положительное влияние на студентов, таких как развитие английского языка, стажировка за границей, академическая мобильность и продолжение учебы, учиться в магистратуре. This study investigates the issues related to some aspects of the Kazakh concept of face and politeness, the perceptions of politeness, and politeness and impoliteness strategies. The principal means and mechanism guide and predetermines the social conduct that guarantees the harmony of the relationships between people. Kazakh politeness, as part of people’s communicative behavior, is a component of national culture and is governed by national customs and traditions based on deep historical roots. Historically nomadic, the Kazakhs had to develop a pattern of interaction rules within the community and outside that helped them to adapt successfully to the harsh conditions of the steppe. The only guarantee to successfully survive in the vast steppe, arid nature, and nomadic way of life was to maintain benevolent relations between people and, at any expense, prevent conflict and aggressive situations. An online survey was conducted in which 100 first-year al-Farabi university students participated. The survey data obtained provided valuable insight into the young people’s beliefs about politeness and impoliteness and how the concept of politeness affects their moral values and shapes their ethnocultural behavior in modern times. The respondents’ answers showed a surprising uniformity in defining the politeness principles in the Kazakh context. With Kazakh young people, politeness is nestled in respecting others, especially older adults, appropriate behavior, maintaining smooth and harmonious interpersonal relations, good manners, and adhering to societal rules and norms.

This study is a scoping review of research conducted on Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) in Kazakhstan. A total of 26 studies were selected, including journal articles and master’s theses. The selected studies were thematically analyzed to identify key aspects and shared aspects. Three main thematically organized areas for CLIL research emerged from the reviewed studies: (1) Dominant perceptions and beliefs about CLIL, (2) Positive outcomes and challenges in CLIL, and (3) CLIL pedagogy and methodology. The majority of the reviewed studies primarily focused on students’ English language skills, investigated the affective and cognitive experience of CLIL, and addressed challenges, practices, and concerns related to CLIL. These themes capture the current landscape of CLIL research in Kazakhstan and contribute to a more holistic understanding of CLIL’s impact on language acquisition and educational practices, thereby informing approaches to language education in Kazakhstan’s trilingual education system.
