Presbyopic LASIK Using Hybrid Bi-Aspheric Micro-Monovision Ablation Profile for Presbyopic Corneal Treatments

Abstract: CONCLUSIONS: Presbyopic treatment using a hybrid bi-aspheric micro-monovision ablation profile is safe and efficacious. The post-operative outcomes indicate improvements in binocular vision at far, intermediate and near distances with improved contrast sensitivity. A 19% retreatment rate should be considered to increase satisfaction levels, besides a 3% reversal rate.3

“…Our outcomes for UDVA, UNVA, and CDVA loss of two or more lines and re-treatment percentage were similar to recent published studies using presbyopic LASIK with central multifocal ablation profiles in hyperopic patients. 2,4,5,[23][24][25][26][27][28] The proportion of patients achieving 20/20 or better binocular UDVA varied from 36.6% to 93% in the study from Reinstein et al 4 (vs 91% in our study). The proportion of patients achieving Jaeger 3 (Parinaud 4) or better binocular UNVA varied from 60% to 100% in the study by Jackson et al 2 (vs 93% in our study).…”

“…The excimer laser ablation profile was not adapted to the preoperative pupil diameter dynamics. Patients should be required to have pupil diameters larger than 3 mm in photopic conditions (for effectively using the near central corneal zone) and larger than 4.5 mm in mesopic conditions (for effectively using the pericentral intermediate and distant corneal zone), as proposed by Luger et al 5 For smaller pupils, the abla-tion zone should theoretically be reduced to obtain an effective multifocality within the entrance pupil area. Our mathematical model 16 used an optical zone of 6 mm.…”

“…As a consequence, it is possible to conclude that the results achieved with the central presbyLASIK technique PresbyMax, are stable for a three‐year follow‐up period post‐surgery. In this way, this study complements other previous reports, in which good clinical results with the technique were reported both in myopes and hyperopes.…”
