Presence of circulating anti‐c‐myb oncogene product antibodies in human sera

Abstract: Bacterially expressed mouse c-myb protein was purified from E. coli extracts and used as antigen to screen human sera for circulating anti-c-myb oncogene product antibodies. Using Western blotting, we have found that human sera contain IgG antibodies to the c-myb gene product. The percentage of positive sera in cancer patients appears to be dependent upon cancer type and is significantly higher in breast-cancer patients than in normal donors: 43% of sera from breast-cancer patients are positive, whereas in neu… Show more

“…Development of tumour-associated antibodies against dominant and recessive oncogenes has been observed in several other tumour types (Caron de Fromentel et al, 1987;Ben-Mahrez et al, 1990;Sorokine et al, 1991;Winter et al, 1992;Angelopoulou et al, 1994), and in some cases, the presence of anti-p53 antibodies is …”

“…Antibodies to intracellular, cancer-related proteins such as Myc, Myb and p53 have also been documented. [23][24][25][26][27] Indeed, about 9-15% of breast cancer patients have been found to have circulating antibodies against p53, 23,24 and children with a wide variety of cancers have a similar frequency of p53 antibodies. 28 In the current study, we demonstrate that plasma derived from 14 of 20 Ph-positive CML patients as well as from two of four Ph-negative leukemics and from two of seven normal controls can detect p210 Bcr-Abl .…”
