Presentation of a novel real-time production supply concept with cyber-physical systems and efficiency validation by process status indicators

Abstract: Industry 4.0, digitization, and Internet of Things enable companies to react quickly and flexibly to market changes. The objective is the production of customized products at the cost of a mass-produced product. The widespread entry of cyber-physical systems enables a networking of all entities. The introduction of cyber-physical systems in production and logistic systems dissolves existing rigid structures and as a result versatile cyber-physical production systems occur. To support the flexibility of the cyb… Show more

“…Along with flexibility and modularity, communication between systems is also vital for warehouse operational performance (Schuh et al, 2017). Smart intralogistics improves process‐to‐process communication by seamlessly integrating cyber‐physical systems, for example, workstations and sensor‐mounted AGVs/AMRs (Bayhan et al, 2020). Further, the individual robots may also communicate internally using dynamically established machine‐2‐machine (M2M) communication systems (Rollenhagen et al, 2020).…”

“…Further, with the autonomous variable prioritization capability, costs are saved when the robots select the most immediate (or profitable) work orders first and then proceed to low‐value (non‐time‐sensitive) work orders (Schuhmacher & Hummel, 2020a). Such capability also helps reduce costs when the warehouse services customized products rather than mass‐produced products (Bayhan et al, 2020). Not to forget, the cost of labor, which makes a major chunk of warehouse operational costs, is saved when the AGVs/AMRs take over the labor‐intensive tasks (Karamanos et al, 2019; Martínez & Noriega, 2020; Walenta et al, 2017; Wior et al, 2018).…”

“…This work focused on the use of these technologies and their impacts on the environment, whether they collaborate or not for clean operations, without denigrating the environment. road, rail monitoring system, ship traffic management and truck scheduling, are some of the systems that assist port operations and environmental management (Bayhan et al, 2020).…”

“…In general, the need for versatile production concepts to meet the dynamic requirements of industrial production and development was looked at from different perspectives [11], [12], e.g. through decentralized controlled supply by several cyber-physical system entities (which are represented by autonomous software agents).…”
