Preservation of Cavernosal Erectile Function after Soft Penile Prosthesis Implant in Peyronie's Disease: Long-Term Followup

Abstract: The aim of this retrospective study is to evaluate the long-term followup of soft penile SSDA prosthesis, without plaque surgery in the treatment of Peyronie's disease. This study included 12 men with Peyronie's disease who underwent placement of a penile prosthesis. All patients were followed for at least 6 years. Prosthesis straightened the penile shaft in all cases, restoring patient sexual satisfaction. No operative or postoperative complications occurred, and no reoperations were needed. All patients have… Show more

“…The implant acts to correct the deformity due to the Peyronie's plaque. Unlike in our case, they demonstrate good erectile function after implantation of the SSDA by intact cavernous blood supply and no venous leak [6]. Again, our patient had his implant removed and reports objectively rigid and sustainable erectile function sufficient enough for the entirety of sexual intercourse, including anal penetration.…”

“…Grasso et al. reports preservation of cavernosal erectile function after soft penile prosthesis implant in patients with Peyronie's disease [6]. Even these patients required adjunctive therapy such as PDE inhibitors in order to achieve an erection satisfactory enough for penetration during sexual intercourse.…”

“…The Nesbit procedure was the original tunical shortening technique and was initially used for the correction of congenital penile curvature caused by corporal disproportion. Modifications of tunical shortening techniques include the Yachia , Giammusso , Lemberger and Essed‐Schröeder techniques, the 16‐ or 24‐dot procedure , the penoscrotal plication procedure and tunica albuginea plication (Table ).…”

“…Infrapubic or penoscrotal incisions are preferred for the insertion of penile prostheses implants in most cases and according to surgeon experience. Malleable and inflatable devices are available (Table ) , with the latter able to be divided into two‐ and three‐piece devices. Inflatable devices lead to higher functional satisfaction and lower rates of persistent penile curvature deformity compared with malleable devices .…”
