Abstract:Ultrathin topological insulator membranes are building blocks of exotic quantum matter. However, traditional epitaxy of these materials does not facilitate stacking in arbitrary orders, while mechanical exfoliation from bulk crystals is also challenging due to the nonnegligible interlayer coupling therein. Here we liberate millimeter-scale films of the topological insulator Bi 2 Se 3 , grown by molecular beam epitaxy, down to 3 quintuple layers. We characterize the preservation of the topological surface state… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
