That the Early Mesoproterozoic compression involved attenuated, thermally perturbed crust also finds support from the record of an early andalusite facies thermal metamorphism, which was coincident with voluminous mafic magmatism in the belt (the Dalma Igneous suite; Ghosh et al, 2006). Such voluminous mafic magmatism is generally linked to lithospheric extension, caused by mantle-scale thermal perturbation.…”
