Pretreatment lymphocyte‐to‐monocyte ratios predict AIDS‐related diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma overall survival

Abstract: The lymphocyte‐to‐monocyte ratio (LMR) and platelet‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (PLR) have been reported to be useful for predicting the prognosis of various malignancies, including diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma (DLBCL). However, little is known about the role of LMR and PLR in the prognosis of DLBCL patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. We retrospectively evaluated the prognostic value of the LMR and PLR in patients with newly diagnosed AIDS‐related diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma (AR‐DLBCL) who w… Show more

“…Fortunately, this situation has improved since 2018, and 39.3% of AIDS-defining DLBCL patients receive curative-intent treatment with six to eight cycles of CHOP-or EPOCH-based strategies. In fact, the latest 2-year OS and PFS rates were 62.7%-79.9% and 56.4%-64% in high-income regions of China, such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Nanjing [8,10,12]. All this underscores the necessity to improve the standard hierarchical management and supportive care of HIV/AIDS-associated lymphomas in low-income and middle-income regions of China.…”

“…HIV/AIDs occurs frequently in the southwestern region (e.g., Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, and Chongqing), the northwestern region of Xinjiang, and in a central province of Henan [7]. In the last decade, a few region-specific, population-level studies have sporadically described the epidemiological features, clinical characteristics, pathobiology, management, or prognosis of HIV-associated lymphomas in China [8][9][10][11][12]. The outcomes of Chinese ARL patients have improved in recent years, especially in high-income regions.…”

“…Comparable lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio cut-off values have been identified in previous studies carried out on patients with HIV. For instance, Zeng et al [ 37 ] highlighted a strong association between a diminished lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (<2.74) and unsatisfactory survival outcomes in individuals with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Of course, a sophisticated randomized controlled trial would be necessary to lend weight to these results.…”

“…Currently, the data on HIV-infected Chinese DLBCL patients are uncomprehensive. Some studies illustrated well the basic clinical characteristics of HIV-related DLBCL based on a small Chinese population [ 19 , 20 , 21 ]. Thus, a further study is necessary to enrich the data of HIV-infected Chinese DLBCL patients.…”
