Pretreatment of pine needles/wood particles and their composites with isocyanate prepolymer adhesive

Abstract: Pine needles and eucalyptus wood particles were treated with 4, 4 0 diphenyl methane diisocyanate. The efficacy of treatment was assessed in terms of lowering in the contact angle, the assignment of new absorption peaks and the penetration inside the surfaces. Results indicate that needles were less wettable than the wood particles and also heterogeneitically retained isocyanate on their surfaces. A positive effect in the properties of composites was observed when pine needles were used with the composite adhe… Show more

“…However, according to previous studies, when the toxicity index limit is applied to housing, if the toxicity index is greater than 1.5, the risk of injury or disability from a fire is higher in humans that are exposed to that environment for more than 30 min (Chauhanm et al 2012;Seo and Son 2015). Overall, the toxicity index results demonstrated that the FRCs developed in this study had a low risk for indoor use.…”

“…Composites containing both pine needles and eucalyptus wood particles exhibited superior mechanical properties to the composites made only with the pine needles when these were used with the composite adhesive system: monomer isocyanate for pretreatment and isocyanate prepolymer for particle-particle bonding (Chauhan et al 2013).…”

“…Elastomer polyurethanes are multiblock copolymers keeping the common replicate unit structure (A m B n ) p (Liu et al 2013a, b, c;Gupta et al 2013;Yu et al 2013a, b;Gu et al 2014). As a result of modifications within the individual block features, including the chemical identity and molecular weight; polyurethanes fabricate to be soft or hard (Raja et al 2014;Jiang et al 2014a, b).…”
